¡Apagón!

       Today was not a very fun day..... So first of all, it's about 105 degrees, which kind of stinks when you have no air conditioning, but until today it's been okay. Today, however there was a blackout.... They happen about every one to two weeks here.... everyone just loses power. Usually it comes back on almost immediately but today... that didn't quite happen. I was working on my homework with the wind from my fan in my room blowing on me when suddenly it stopped.... the power went out for hours and it was probably one of the hottest days that I've been here for yet. Katelyn and I literally just laid around in various positions throughout the hosue trying to finish our homework and not die of heat! Luckily, we decided/realized it would be a good idea to walk accross town to a restaurant we are rather fond of, that has air conditioning! The walk there was pretty awful though. The restaurant is called Square One and is right by our school, PUCCM. It serves tons of different delicous foods, mostly American, and it open 24 hours a day, perfect for when we need a fix of food from home and cold air! I definitely reccommend stopping in there to anyone who comes to Santiago.
       Something else new that I recently experienced was a night club! I had been to a few bars here already, but last night, we went to a club called Dubai. It was really fun, and Wednesday is ladies night so everything is free! One thing that became more evident that ever last night though, was that Dominican men do not like to hear the word no. They get very offended and don't really seem to understand when you tell them no, I do not want to dance with you and I don't want you to get me a drink! Oh well, it sure makes a girl feel flattered!
       This weekend we are going to a family reunion with our host family Barahona, should be fun! I'll have a new blog post at the end of the weekend to let everyone know how it went!



      Hoy no era un día muy divertido ..... en primer lugar, que es alrededor de 105 grados, que es mucho calor cuando no tienes aire acondicionado, pero hasta hoy ha estado bien. Hoy, sin embargo hubo un apagón .... Se producen aproximadamente cada una o dos semanas aquí .... todo el mundo sólo pierde el poder. Por lo general, se trata de nuevo casi de inmediato, pero ... hoy que no suceder. Yo estaba trabajando en mi tarea con el viento de mi abanico solpando en mi habitación cuando de repente se detuvo .... se fue la luz durante muchas horas y fue probablemente uno de los días más calores que he estado aquí por el momento. Katelyn y yo, acaba de colocar en varias posiciones en todo la casa tratando de terminar nuestra tarea y no morir de calor! Por suerte, decidimos/nos damos cuenta de que sería una buena idea caminar cruzando la ciudad a un restaurante muy delicioso, que tiene aire acondicionado! La caminata hacía mucho calor... El restaurante se llama Square One y es al lado de nuestra escuela, PUCCM. Sirve muchas comidas deliciosas, en su mayoría estadounidenses, y también está abierto las 24 horas del día, ideal para cuando quermos comia de los estado unidos y el aire frío! Sin duda recomendaría visitarlo para cualquiera que visita a Santiago.
        Otra cosa nueva que he experimentado recientemente era un club! Ya había visitado unos bares aquí, pero ayer, fuimos a un club llamado Dubai. Fue muy divertido, y el miércoles es noche de damas, entonces todo era gratis! Una cosa que ahora es más evidente que antes, sin embargo, era que los hombres dominicanos no les gusta oír la palabra no. Se sienten muy ofendido y realmente no parecen entender cuando les dices que no, no quiero bailar con usted y no quiero que me trajes un trago! Oh, bueno, seguro que hace una chica se sienta halagada!
        Este fin de semana vamos a una reunión familiar con nuestra familia a Barahona, debe ser divertido! Voy a tener una nueva entrada de blog al final del fin de semana para que todos sepan cómo te fue!
